Early Career
At the age of five, Jane began her acting career as a deaf girl named Nina in the 1952 movie, Mandy. Playing in the movie Mandy help jump start Jane’s career and she got many other parts in other movies such as: 1954’s Adventure in the Hopfields, 1955’s Dance Little Lady and The Quatermass Xperiment, 1956’s Charlie Moon playing as Benesta, 1961’s The Greengage Summer playing as Hester, 1962’s The Prince and the Pauper (TV film) playing as Lady Jane Grey, 1963’s Girl in the Headlines playing as Lindi Birkett, 1964’s The Masque of the Red Death.

In 1966’s Alfie Jane played egotistic Annie, a character in which was Jane’s first real role that showed people she was no longer the cute little girl they once knew and loved. She was now playing more adult roles such as: 1968’s The Winter's Tale playing as Perdita, 1970’s The Buttercup Chain playing as Margaret and The Deep End playing as Susan, 1973’s Henry VIII and His Six Wives playing as Jane Seymour, 1981’s Rece do gory as herself, 1983’s Runners playing as a Bank Manager, 1984’s Success is the Best Revenge playing as Jane, 1985’s Dreamchild playing as Sonja, and 1988’s Paris by Night playing as Paulie.

Jane not only did movies, but she appeared in many TV shows as well. She played in the TV show The Adventures of Robin Hood three times, in 1956 she played as Alice A’Bland, 1957 she played as Susan, and in 1958 as a little girl. Also on a TV show, The Saint she was on twice, 1963 she played as Ellen Chase and 1964 she played as Rose Yearley. Other TV shows Jane appeared on were: 1957’s Sword of Freedom playing as Tristina and The Buccaneers playing as Jenny, 1958’s Queen's Champion (TV series) playing as Mary Brandon, 1960’s Four Just Men playing as Yvonne, 1962’s Out of This World playing as Lee Cross, Dixon of Dock Green playing as Joan Lane, and Dr. Finlay's Casebook playing as Mattie Lennox, 1963’s Juke Box Jury as herself, 1965’s The Mill on the Floss playing as Maggie Tulliver, 1967’s Our World as herself, 1969’s Journey to the Unknown, 1972’s Hedda Gabler (TV play of the month) playing as Mrs. Elvsted, and The Stone Tape playing as Jill Greeley, 1973’s Fellow Townsmen (TV wessex tales), The Recruiting Officer (TV play of the month) playing as Melinda, and The Adventurer playing as Sarah Cookson, 1974’s Jackanory (A children’s storytelling show) as a reader, 1977’s Hawkmoor (TV series) playing as Lady Johane Williams and The Goodies (TV comedy series) playing as Caroline Kook, 1978’s Hazell (TV series) playing as Georgina Gunning and Rumpole of the Bailey (TV series) playing as Kathy Trelawney, 1981’s Brideshead Revisited (TV series) playing as Celia Ryder, 1982’s A Voyage Round My Father (TV series) playing as Elizabeth, Love is Old, Love is New (TV series) playing as Katha, and East Lynne playing as Emma Vane, 1984’s Tales of the Unexpected (TV series) playing as Mrs. Liddell, 1985’s Bright Smiler (TV series) playing as Helen and The Mistress (TV series), and 1987’s Wish Me Luck playing as Faith Ashley
